About this event

In recent years, the Far Eastside of Indianapolis has been considered a community to avoid. Media outlets, neighborhood associations, community members, and local businesses agree that the Far Eastside has been estranged and forgotten. Gang violence, death, and a lost sense of pride in this community have left its mark. From scattered trash along the streets, non-accessible sidewalks due to over grown brush, over grown grass, unfilled potholes, inoperable street lights and unkempt bus stops, the amount of neglect this community has faced is immeasurable.

Indy heartbeat, a violence reduction initiative, was established in Indianapolis in 2016. The department of justice has awarded Eskenazi Health and the Marion County Public Health Department a grant to foster collaboration with the goal of reducing violence specifically on the Near and Far Eastside of Indianapolis. One of the specific objectives of Indy HeartBeat (IHB) is to develop a beautification project with community members to make residence areas more cosmetically appealing. The projected outcome for the project is to foster an opportunity for residents and community engagement relationships, increasing community pride and responsibility.

IHB would like to invite all members of the Far Eastside community to be a part of this beautification project in the area of E 42nd street and Mitthoeffer rd. Volunteers are an integral part of this endeavor and we are hoping for an overwhelming community response. We are excited to see community residents, businesses, and service providers come together to clean up and beautify this area.
